Back cover is IRRELEVant, there is only two questions

"Use the title from the film's credits." and

"Episode descriptors are part of the title; separate them with a colon and space; e.g. "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock". For multiple descriptors, use a colon and space for each break, e.g. "Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace".

That supplies all the information that is needed.

If the The Year We Make Contact is On Screen it is part of the title, and the second part says how to deal with it. Simple answer, Mr. Lopek.

Ah, typical Skip, post without reading properly or completely. Missing the point completely. Screaming about irrelevant rules. Somethings never change!

Now go back and read the whole thread and try again old man!

I misread nothing, Mr. Lopek.  I provided the information from the Rules to evaluate what was being said. Basedon what I have seen the title is simply 2010, but not because of the back cover as you stated because we don't use the back cover.

The Rules spell out where the data comes from and how to deal with it, no need for discussion.

It was clearly an aside... following the crucial info - what was in the credits!

Talking about firing the first shot for no reason.

And if you believed the title was "2010", why were you arguing for a colon with regards to the contibution???

EDIT: And why did you quote the irrelevant "Episode Descriptors" rules?

While it is correct that we do not directly use the back cover for the title, the back cover can give you some hints which part of the text on the front cover is the title and which part is only a tag line, marketing gimmick, edition description or whatever.

I quoted the Episode Descriptor Rules, because it would define the title as 2010: The Year We Made Contact, if the descriptor appeared On Screen. I can't pull the title myself right now and verify it.

So, it's simple if the descriptor is on screen, the Rule applies, if it does not then it should not appear in our title.

It's not hard to comprehend. You chose to cite the back cover and refer to posters , which we do not use. And I caught one or two references to On Screen, but I could not check it myself. so make the explanation as simple as possible. Just beyond your ability to comprehend, i suppose.

Irrelevant, Rho. The back cover is not used or needed.

The Rules are clear.

Thanks for changing your mind about the colon and agreeing with us, Skip. It's been fun.

But I had already noted twice that the "descriptor" (by which I pressume you actually mean subtitle) was not on the screen - so that rules was already confirmed as irrelevant.

The poster was a specific reference to highlight that TYWMC was not DVD specific "Modified Title". Seems the comprehension issue is not with me!

Anyway, keep going old man, you may even convince yourself by the end of the night!

I didn't change my mind, James. Never have never will.  It is very simple. If The Day We Make Contact is On Screen we use the colon per the RULES. And Widescreen Forever was intially trying to impose his OWN interpretation which was NOT supported by the Rules AND STILL IS.

If it is not On Screen then it should NOT be there at all. Simple No mind change at all.

Mr. Lopek, you should not bring up irelevant side issues such as back cover and poters which we do not use AT ALL

Maybe one day, Mr. lopek and James you will actually come up something relevant instead making your repetitive personal slams....but I doubt it and I won't hold my breath.

The posters were relevant, as I explained - shame you can't understand that as you are too busy worrying about irrelevant colons.

Erm... how were my posts - prior to your silly "opening shot" attack - not relevant? They were all about the credits, and considering the "modified title" rules which could over-ride the credits name.

Stop playing the victim old man - this thread was all nice and civil until you had a pop about a side comment.

Sorry, Skip, but you are trying to apply  a TV Set Rule regarding Episodes to a Movie.  The Episode Rule talking about colons is irrelevant to this conversation.  "2010" is not a TV Set.

The only Rule that applies is the one that says the Title is to be taken from the film credits.

Hence "2010" is the proper title.

Just for your edification, Hal And I will make it very simple for you

Others were bringing extraneous material that have no relevansce

1) I said I can't check the title right now.
2) I quoted the Rules
3) I said IF the subtitle appears On Screen then the colon should be used per the Rules
4) I also said if it does NOT, then the title should be 2010.

You may now resume your seat. Howdy said so.
