I don't know about you but I always find packaging and DVD covers a fascinating subject. While it's true we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, sometimes a DVD cover can entice you completely and may be the deciding factor between buying a movie or not.

I never had any intention of buying Saw, but when I found the uncut edition, with the little saw floating around and the artificial blood all over it I thought it was the coolest thing ever (I know, I'm weird like that) and I had to have it. As it turned out, I liked the movie, and the DVD is a cool thing to show friends.

But what about movies where its packaging or cover are practically screaming at you: "Do not buy me! Ever! Put me back on the shelf!"?

I was just browsing through Amazon when somehow I found this thing, which may well be from the  "What the f**k is this?!?" variety:



If they're trying to entice me to buy something like this, they got it just plain WRONG. Never, ever in a million years.

What about you all? What's your true tale of horrifying dvd covers (or packaging)? Show the true horrors of the most vile, disgusting and scariest DVDs in the world.

It was made between HP1 & HP2 so they didn't know what a success it was going to be at that point.

And most actors have their fair share of lemons.

I've always been of the opinion that all major studios need to fire everyone in the department that makes dvd covers, and hire some of the brilliant artists you find at custom cover sites.
What ever happened to just using the theatrical poster for cover art?

It makes me ill knowing that someone got paid to make that piece of shiitake mushroom which doesn't even fit the movie, and looks just like the Fox colorized version of Night Of The Living Dead.
I'm gonna be plenty busy downloading customs in the next few months. From Beyond & Monster Squad also feature horrid photoshop covers.

That being said, I've almost never bought or not bought a dvd based on the cover. If I don't like the cover, I'll make my own or grab one from a custom site.
I think the last time I let cover affect me was also the uncut Saw. I had no intention of getting it since I owned the first release at the time, but that cool cover and a ticket to a movie I was going to see anyway (Saw II) meant it was about $5 for the discs and cool cover, so I grabbed it. After selling the old disc and seeing the movie it turned out to cost about $2.
